I was busy with my garden when I heard a truck coming... I was not expecting anyone... not that most of people who come by do get in touch before they arrive :-) ... I was just curious... First I thought someone got lost, but then I found out...
This guy you see up on our biggest cork tree came here 9 years ago, the last time the cork was taken... he asked me if I wanted to sell the cork... I was not so sure, because I could use some for insulation... At the same time, if I wanted to use it, I had to smash it, which is not easy by hand... so I asked if I could get a good deal getting the left overs on the factory he works for and he said yes... so, ok... he gave me 50€, which I'm not sure if it was a fair price, but hey, I had no money at all, so it actually came on the right time...
It was also nice to see how it's done... and it's amazing how fresh and wet the bark is inside after it's pealed... and the smell, wow, amazing !!!
But here are some more pictures with some comments about few things I've been up to this last month...
It's pretty high... he told me this tree might have at least 200 years... this guy is only 32 years old, but does this since he was 14... that's reality in most of rural Portugal...
My vegetable raised bed... pretty wild... here I have egg-plants, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, basil and some random tomatoes, watermelon and pumpkin that came out from the compost :-)
My tires experiment and the tomatoes around the fence... these tomatoes are massive !!!
Preparing a drip irrigation under the raised beds...
you usually work with leather with this tool, but it worked fine to make the holes :-)
Platform where a 1000 liter water container will stand... the idea is to filter the water...one filter for smells and other for dirt... and try to solve the problem in the water solar heater that gets a bit stinky after a while :-/
here's the first post... I cut 1,5 m parts from those big rail tracks I found on the way...quite heavy stuff...
my little trick to put it up by myself... I was slightly concern, but it was ok... and again, thank you Brian for the new drill... it's so much easier now :-)...
And here's how it is at the moment... I need to ask for help to be able to put up the water container... I might invite Alfonso and Meline for lunch...they are a beautiful french couple who live nearby, and they're always offering their help... I go to their place every now and then too... we're developing a nice friendship...

Haha, too bad we have no photos of us desperately trying to lift the water container! We must have look pretty helpless... but it was really too heavy for the two of us.

Hi Chrissy... yes, it was a bit too much...at least the way we wanted to go...tssss...
but me and another guy did it :-)... with a different technique of course... no way we could have done it the way we were trying...
I wish I had a camera to film the water tank going up... it was quite a scene :-)... I basically did what I told you I had in mind...I made a ramp with two boards, and then me and Paulo, the guy who is staying here now, pulled it gently and Paulo was tying a rope every few inches :-) It was fun...but now is up and already working :-) I will try to post soon. I haven't taken pictures yet :-)
